This multi-award winning 7-star, carbon neutral, commercial development has been recognised locally and globally setting a new benchmark for sustainable development.
The first retail development to achieve Living Building Challenge® certification, making it the most sustainable shopping centre in the world.
The former brickworks site in Burwood East has been transformed into a mixed-use development, acting as a local hub for local and the surrounding neighbourhood and been recognised across the country and internationally for its achievements in sustainability.
Frasers Property engaged Village Well to create a place vision that reflected the sense of place contributed to both the future mixed-use community and wider neighbourhood.
The project is Australia’s first shopping centre rooftop urban farm and restaurant. It delivers a net-positive impact to the site, closed loop retail and exemplifies regenerative design. It has received a 6-star Green Star Design & As Built from the Green Building Council of Australia and Living Building Challenge certification.
The development has been honoured through several awards including the Premier’s Sustainability Award, Excellence in Sustainability and Development at The Urban Developer Awards and Commercial Architecture and Best of the Best Award at the Sustainable Building Awards in 2020. It’s innovative integration of Indigenous design was recognised at the Good Design Awards.
