Central Plaza is an iconic commercial building, centrally located in Brisbane’s financial precinct and featuring a grand commercial tower and lower adjacent building (the Annexe). Building owner and project client, ISPT, refurbished the foyer in 2016 and the Annexe in 2019 and were seeking a placemaking approach to activating these newly refurbished spaces.

Village Well was engaged to work with the investment team to develop an activation plan for the foyer, building edges and Annexe. Village Well’s process involved in-depth place analysis and stakeholder engagement with the project team, tenants and Brisbane City Council. 

Village Well’s place-based analysis provided ISPT and the wider project team with a deep understanding of the rich history and opportunities for the Central Plaza Precinct. Village Well’s short-term activation recommendations encouraged ISPT to begin place activation as soon as possible. Key recommendations included providing a daily farmers market, displaying art in the foyer and bringing music to the street. These activations were all achieved in December 2019. Village Well also had an ongoing role providing timely strategic and activation advice for the project team as activations were implemented.
