Context & Place of Vision

Context

The Community Housing Industry Association (CHIA) sought to create a groundbreaking, industry-first framework for community engagement. With social housing construction expanding across Victoria, CHIA recognised the need to build the capacity of housing organisations to lead placemaking and engagement initiatives that are trauma-informed, inclusive, and transformative.

Village Well was engaged to develop a Best Practice Engagement Framework and training program that empowers housing organisations, strengthens relationships with councils, and ensures the benefits of social housing are understood and embraced by communities.

Place of Vision

“To create a transformative framework to empower housing organisations to create inclusive, supportive communities”

Impact & Result

Impact

  • Established a global best practice model for trauma-informed community engagement.

  • Empowered community housing organisations to lead transformative placemaking and engagement initiatives.

  • Strengthened collaboration between housing providers, councils, and communities.

  • Created a framework that reduces stigma and fosters positive perceptions of social housing.

  • Developed a toolkit to be able to achieve transformative engagement.

Result

Village Well’s engagement framework has set a new standard for community housing, providing CHIA with tools and strategies that are scalable, adaptable, and transformative. The project has enhanced sector-wide capacity and built stronger, more inclusive relationships between housing providers, councils, and communities.
