Context

RMIT University’s CBD North campus masterplan aimed to transform its ground plane into a vibrant and inclusive hub for students and the public. With a vision to enhance the campus experience, the masterplan focused on creating spaces that reflect the university’s innovative character and cater to its diverse community.


Village Well was engaged to craft a Placemaking Vision and Ground Plane Experience, supported by a bespoke engagement strategy to capture meaningful input from the RMIT community.

  • Enabled RMIT to align its campus ground plane transformation with the needs and aspirations of its diverse student body.

  • Provided practical, student-driven insights through innovative engagement techniques, ensuring the masterplan was informed by those who use the space daily.

  • Established a framework for future activations that prioritises inclusivity, creativity, and connection.

Result

Village Well’s work culminated in a comprehensive Place Vision report and engagement framework that informed RMIT’s CBD North masterplan. The project successfully captured and integrated the voices of 270 students, providing actionable recommendations to create vibrant, student-centered campus spaces.
